Beth M. Hammack

Beth M. Hammack took office as the president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland on August 21, 2024. In this capacity, she participates in the formulation of US monetary policy and oversees 1,100 employees in the Bank’s Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh offices who conduct economic research, supervise banking institutions, and provide payment services to commercial banks and the US government.

Prior to her appointment as Cleveland Fed president, she was cohead of the global financing group at Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. and a member of its management committee. Hammack joined Goldman Sachs in 1993 as an analyst in capital markets before moving to the interest rate products trading desk. She was named managing director in 2003 and partner in 2010. During her tenure, Hammack served on several firmwide committees, including the enterprise risk, finance, and global inclusion and diversity committees.

An accomplished thought leader, Hammack has worked closely with US policymakers as chair of the Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee, offering presentations on macroeconomic and geopolitical topics including on the outlook for US growth and inflation. She served several years as a member of the Financial Research Advisory Committee and the Treasury Market Practices Group, the latter of which aims to advance financial industry best practices. The Treasury Market Practices Group is sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Hammack is a frequent presenter and participant at financial market and economic conferences. During her 30-plus years in capital and financial markets, she has consistently worked to develop and sponsor emerging talent within the industry and has sponsored a professional women’s networking program.

In addition to investing in the growth and development of the next generation of professionals, Hammack volunteers her time and skills to support nonprofits. She serves as chair of the board of the nonprofit Math for America and is also a member of the City Harvest board of trustees.

Born in California, Hammack grew up in Villanova, Pennsylvania, before earning a bachelor of arts in quantitative economics and history from Stanford University.
