Edward H. Cunningham became a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System on May 14, 1923. He died in office in 1930.
Cunningham was born in 1869, in Burlington, Wisconsin. After attending high school, he began farming in Iowa in 1889. Farming and agriculture helped shape Cunningham’s career, remaining a focus during his period as a member of the Board of Governors.
Elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1909, Cunningham served three terms. In his last year of service, 1913, he was Speaker of the House. Before his appointment to the Board of Governors, Cunningham was secretary of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (1920–23).Cunningham was married in 1893.
